Screencast-o-matic and Windows Live Movie Maker are a few of the tools I use to create and edit video tutorials. Both of them can conveniently post to YouTube directly, but every time they would post to the WRONG CHANNEL! Ugh! I went crazy trying to figure out how to change this. Why, why would they always post to the wrong YouTube channel? I tried changing my identity and signing back in, I tried verifying I was in the right YouTube channel before opening the program, but nothing worked.

As it turns out, there is a default YouTube channel set for your account so it can “helpfully” direct you where it presumes you want to go. This setting is used by all third-party applications posting to YouTube on your behalf. Which explains why I could never get my video creation and editing programs to post to the correct YouTube channel. Likely, this default channel was assigned when you logged in to YouTube at some point and you didn’t even realize it. Fortunately, there’s a very easy way to change your default YouTube channel in the Advanced Settings page.

Change YouTube Channel Default – Advanced Settings

    1. Go to www.youtube.com/account_advanced.
    2. In the upper right-hand corner of the screen, click on your picture and make sure that you select, or are currently using, the channel you want to set as the default.

All better. Now all third-party applications that post to YouTube will use this channel when you sign in with that particular account.
