    One of the big secrets to building a brand is, in all actuality, you. In fact, one of the most important things you can do, day in and day out, is show up as you. And I don’t mean a perfect version of you. People connect better with other real people. So feel free to show up in all of your normalness, imperfections, and quirks.

    Now, is it possible to be you everywhere? Sure. But it’s harder in some places, like perhaps when you’re writing an article.

    Video is key to building your brand

    Writing can seem daunting because it can be hard to capture your own voice in it 100% of the time. But on video? Well, once you get over the nerves of being on camera, it’s all you – all the time.

    Actually, let’s take a step back. Let me tell you a quick little story.

    When my dad opened a restaurant the year I was born, he ended up writing his own computer programs for payroll and sales tracking. Now, he wasn’t a computer programmer – he had an engineering background. Just don’t ask me how that translated into opening a restaurant…

    But growing up, I saw the green screen computer with the two floppy drives. I did data entry for him. I saw how powerful of a tool the computer was for him in his business. He didn’t have to rely on an outside bookkeeper. He knew his numbers and he knew his business – inside and out. And I think that, growing up in that kind of an environment, has had a huge impact on me and my own love for tech.

    A warning: always remember your target market

    Why did I tell you that story? Well, for one, it’s giving you an inside look into who I am. And that’s part of building your brand – it’s giving those behind the scenes looks at who you are.

    But I didn’t tell just any random story – I told you one that lets you know that I love tech. And loving tech is vital to my job – which is helping other businesses (like yours) to increase their online visibility and digital presence. After all, you don’t want some newbie handling your online stuff. You want someone who’s been around for a while and knows what’s what.

    And that’s important because you always want to keep your audience in mind. Which means that I’ll be saving the Powerpuff videos for another time – at another place.
