It’s pretty safe to say that the Internet is glutted with content, wouldn’t you agree? There’s blogs, articles, news agencies, social media platforms, and a billion other things all vying for our attention. And they’re all creating loads of content for us to consume.

    Only, they aren’t.

What most of the savvy platforms are doing is this: simply curating content and sharing the heck out of that.

Because, unfortunately, nobody should ever assume that all of the gems they’re sharing on their blog are being read. Not unless that information is being widely disseminated and shared (and reshared) across social media is anyone going to see the treasure you’re sharing on your website or blog.

    Here’s how we change that.

Unbury your treasure and increase the visibility of content that’s already there

Content creation is only a small part of the equation. Granted, it can take a while. So here’s what you do to really speed things up: you can pull from the content you’ve already created to make new articles. Maybe you share a new point of view. Or perhaps you go in more depth on a particular subject.

This is called content re-use. When you re-use content, you’re pulling the best nuggets and treasures from several sources (whatever those may be!) and giving them additional life, and visibility.

It’s true, creating great content it time consuming, but it actually shouldn’t be your main focus. Promoting your existing content should be your primary content marketing activity. You put a bunch of blood, sweat and Google research into that original piece of content. You owe it to yourself to spend just as much time letting the world know it exists.

Find new and exciting ways to share your content

Autoposting to all the places has become really easy to do. However, just a title and a link is not going to get anyone’s attention. It’s boring. Very few people are going to click on that – especially if the accompanying image is a generic one.

So instead, find some new and exciting ways to share your content. Pull a great quote, point, or nugget out of the article. Put that in as the sharable text. Quotes, great photos, and new points are far more likely to get shared on a viral status! So let’s use that to your advantage.

    Share in more focused channels

Sure, there are the top 4 of social media, but to really get your content in front of the right audience, you might want to consider some smaller, more focused channels or use a different presentation. Quora and Medium don’t have the name recognition of Twitter, but they also don’t have the overload of information. Creating a Medium article or finding a question on Quora that can legitimately be answered by your content are two more ways to get the info in front of an audience it will help.

Other places to promote your content include: guest blog posts, guest appearances on podcasts, creating infographics, sharing in Facebook Groups (be sure to check the group rules first), creating a LinkedIn article and sharing with specific industry associations or newsletters.

Bonus: the secret sauce to re-using your juicy content

There’s a few of great ways to guarantee you’ll never run out of ideas on how to re-use and promote your content. Ready?

The first is to try new sharing mediums. If you’ve been a blogging business, try podcasts. Try a Facebook Live or a Periscope or Instagram. Or if you’ve primarily done live videos, try some written articles. Shake it up and have fun doing it.

The second trick is to break things up into bite-sized pieces. Say you’ve got a great blog article that covers three things… could you then go into more detail on one of those points? Congratulations: you’ve got 3 more articles you can write! Then make them into videos and you’ve easily got a lot of content to create.

Finally, if you need some help curating content, there are services out there. Services like Quuu Promote (referral link) will, for a minimal fee, put your content into their content library and have other people share your content.

It’s time to re-crown Content as King through creation, curation, and sharing it with the world in all sorts of new mediums. Stop hiding those nuggets of wisdom and other treasures. You’ve got content that’s begging for increased visibility via video, blog articles, your email lists, asking for shares, and more. So let’s get it done.
