Marketing a business can be an overwhelming task. There’s your website, networking, digital marketing, social media…add it all up and it’s tiring! If your plan is to tackle your marketing to-do list, you need to prioritize those tasks and put the most important at the top. What do you do when you just can’t get it all done now? The key lies in prioritization.

    Start at the Beginning

Before overwhelm takes over, take a breath. Ah, that’s better. Now, start thinking about what you want to do in your business in the next 30, 60, and 90 days. Get really clear here. Take some time and dive in so you’re positive where you want to be. With goals in hand, head back to your marketing to-do list.

Start Prioritizing That Marketing To-Do List

This is the tough stuff. You need to match your goals to your list. Which of your to-dos is going to directly affect your goals? Just so we’re both clear on this: It’s not all of them. It’s a select few that are going to have a cause-effect relationship with where you want to be. You’re going to have to be selective here. Connect directly the things you want, the outcomes you’re after, and what you want in your business to marketing activities. If items on your marketing to-do list don’t have a direct connection, it’s not that they’re not valuable. They’re just not valuable now. Understanding your objectives and getting really clear about your priorities can help diminish that overwhelm and help you start taking action. When your marketing to-do list is too long and cumbersome, it can actually make you stuck. And then you’ll never cross anything off that list.
